I just feel the need to talk about what I have found that I liked.
The Balaclava, aka Ninja mask -
Hands down the best invention in the world. I have worn this thing on almost every run since I got it. And every run that I have worn it, I have not had a cold head at all.
Ears, warm. Chin, warm. Neck, warm. Cheeks, warm. Nose, warm. You get the point.
When I keep the mask over both my nose and my mouth, it took some time to get used to how to breathe like that. But, not that much time.
And if I get too warm, I just pull the mask down to either cover just my mouth or just my chin.
Seriously, it is super convenient. And not to mention, I don’t even have to worry about putting my hair up/back. Just put the balaclava over it.
And it helps keep ear buds in too!
Now, if it had a pocket in the back, it would be perfect ;)
Arm Band thingy -
I don’t know what you call it. I bought that thing for five bucks about 3 years ago. It has seen some days…and many many runs. I cut a hole in the front so I could more easily get to my iPhone screen. I could do it through the plastic, but it was much more tedious.
The pocket fits my iPhone perfectly. And I can pretty easily get it in and out if needed.
It also has pockets on either side. One with a zipper and one with velcro. I don’t always use the pockets, if I have pockets in my pants or jacket. But, when I am wearing an outfit that doesn’t have any, the pockets on the arm band come in super handy. Keys, bandaids, tissues, etc….it can all fit.
I try not to load it up too much because it gets uncomfortable. But, I am surprised that on 95% of my runs, the arm band hasn’t bothered me much at all. I think I have gotten chafing from it only 2 or 3 times. And that was probably on really hot and long runs. Most of the time, I don’t even know the thing is there.
I think that is pretty darn good for a 5 dollar investment.
I switch between two pairs of gloves. Mainly because I can’t decide which one I prefer.
Leopard print - These are fleece and have the removable mitten part for both the four fingers and the thumb. When I run, I start with them all mittened up. If my hands get warm (which they tend to do), I just take the mitten part off. And then when they get chilly, I put the mitten part back on. You get the point.
I like the versatility of them because I am usually up and down with comfort on runs.
Oh, and when I need to do something on my phone, it is easy enough to get to a finger to do the touch screen.
Black ones - I feel like these are the opposite of the leopard print ones.
I start out on the run with the gloves on (of course). When my fingers get cold, I pull them in to the glove, so I am making a fist. I do this until they are warm, and then I spread them out in the gloves again.
They do have the touch screen thing-a-ma-jigs on the fingers…which work ok. Sometimes I get frustrated and just take the gloves off if I have to do something on my phone.
